How many MCLE hours are required?

Three credit hours every year. In addition, Hawaii attorneys must complete at least 1 credit hour of legal ethics every 3 years.

How many MCLE hours can I take through Attorney Credits?

All 3 credit hours, including courses in legal ethics.

How do Attorney Credits' MCLE courses qualify for credit in Hawaii?

All of our online and downloadable on-demand MCLE courses have been approved for MCLE credit by the Hawaii State Bar Association.

What is the requirement for newly admitted attorneys?

The MCLE requirement is waived for the calendar year that an attorney is admitted to the Bar. Newly admitted attorneys must complete the Hawaii Professionalism Course by December 31 of the first full year of being admitted to the Hawaii State Bar Association.

Does Attorney Credits offer courses for newly admitted attorneys?

No. This program is only offered by the Hawaii State Bar Association.

Can I carry hours forward to the next year?

Yes, up to 3 credit hours can be carried over to the next compliance period. To be carried forward, the MCLE credit hours must have been earned during the calendar year immediately preceding the current reporting period.

Does Attorney Credits verify my completion?

Yes, under the Hawaii MCLE Requirements we must monitor your course attendance and completion. For online streaming video courses you must click on randomly inserted pop ups during the video to confirm that you are viewing the course. For downloadable MCLE courses we have embedded numeric codes in the courses. You must write these number codes down and then enter them on our website after you complete the course to obtain your course certificate. Please note that the date you enter the codes and get the certificate is the date that will be printed on the certificate.

Does Attorney Credits report my MCLE hours completed to the Hawaii State Bar Association?

Yes, Attorney Credits does report your completed courses to the Hawaii State Bar Association. Our automated attendance reports run weekly on Thursday. We email Hawaii normally within two business days of the report running. Hawaii also requires that you self report your CLE compliance on your annual registration form. Hawaii attorneys should maintain records of their completed CLE courses for three reporting periods. In addition, we also maintain a record of all your completed courses and you can access your certificates of completion at anytime from our website.

How do I report the completion of my MCLE requirement at the end of my compliance period?

Each active Hawaii attorney must certify on their annual registration form that they are compliant with the Hawaii MCLE requirement. You must also maintain CLE certification records for the 3 most recent MCLE reporting periods.
