Newly admitted Missouri attorneys are not required to complete or report any credit hours in the reporting year in which they are initially licensed to practice law in Missouri. Please note that the MCLE reporting year is different from the standard calendar year and begins on July 1 and ends on June 30 the following year. For example: A lawyer admitted to practice in April 2022 would be admitted during the 2021-2022 reporting year and would not be required to complete or report MCLE hours until the 2022-2023 reporting year (July 31, 2023, filing deadline). A lawyer admitted to practice in September 2022 would be admitted during the 2022-2023 reporting year and would not be required to complete or report MCLE hours until the 2023-2024 reporting year (July 31, 2024, filing deadline). Credit hours should be reported in the online annual report for the July 1- June 30 reporting year in which the program credit hours occurred.

Each attorney admitted to the Missouri Bar must complete 15 hours of continuing legal education (CLE) each MO CLE compliance period. As part of the Missouri CLE requirement, attorneys must complete 2 hours of professionalism, ethics or malpractice prevention credit each annual CLE compliance period. The CLE compliance period in Missouri runs from July 1 - June 30. To report your Missouri CLE compliance, you must make an annual report to the Missouri Bar by July 31. Attorneys who are newly admitted to the Missouri Bar are exempt from the annual mandatory Missouri CLE requirements for the reporting year in which they are admitted. Online and downloadable on-demand CLE courses may be reported for self-study CLE credit and is subject to the 6 hour limit on self-study.
