Newly admitted attorneys must complete a total of 15 MCLE hours - which can include a 6 hour Basic Skills course OR a mentoring program approved by the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism; and at least 9 hours of general or Professional Responsibility MCLE hours. Please note that only the 6 hour Basic Skills requirement may be satisfied prior to being sworn into the bar. Yes, up to 10 general CLE hours may be carried over to the next compliance period - including excess professional responsibility, mental health & substance abuse and diversity & inclusion hours.
No, Illinois attorneys monitor their own progress and must report to the MCLE Board within 31 days of their compliance deadline.
Yes. We report CLE attendance. This report is for the MCLE Board's records, if an attorney is audited the MCLE Board they will have a report of credits earned from Attorney Credits. Our automated attendance reports run on the 1st and weekly on Thursday.
If you have completed your CLE requirement and your My MCLE transcript is complete you do not need to report compliance. Illinois attorneys that are not in compliance must request a grace period extension on the board's website. Here is the link to the MCLE Board website: https://www.mcleboard.org/

While Attorney Credits reports your completed courses to the MCLE Board, pursuant to the Illinois MCLE Rule 796, Illinois attorneys are responsible for their own record keeping of CLE activities completed. The IL MCLE Board will only request certificates of attendance in the event that the attorney is audited. The certificates of completion issued by Attorney Credits should be maintained to verify Illinois CLE compliance.
